First, my aplogies for getting the heading wrong for the previous pages. It should have read 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Today is the 4th! I have changed it to read properly now. OK - now to the real 4th, which is today. The poster shown is one we see everywhere. Don't worry we are using our own paddles not the half paddle that the guy in the picture is using! At time we seem to spend most of our time in buses or eating. You have seen some photos of us eating so here is one that shows the effect of so much travelling by bus'. Katie was not the only one of course since all of us have snoozed the journey away at some time. For the first time we were able to see the kayaks today. The news is very mixed. We were initially very excited because we were told that there were brand-new 'development' racing K1 and K2 kayaks for us to use. Full of hope we went to try them this morning however, what a disappointment. The kayaks were fantastic and beautifully built but they were really up-to-date racing kayaks and were far narrower than those at the club. Everyone tried to paddle them but even Heather who is the lightest of our paddlers felt very unstable. Therefore, we had to commit to using the rather wider and more stable 'touring' kayaks. Honestly Steve, everyone tried really hard but the boats were just to unstable for them With some more practice I am sure they would have managed but we don't have enough time. One of these 'touring kayaks' is in the picture with Chris who is also modelling our new 'sun proof' kayaking hats. At you can see they are rather like the Kiwi - the kayak not the hats! However, everyone else will be paddling these kayaks so we will not be at any disadvantage. Everyone paddled today and they are all comfortable. We have another practice tomorrow and then a rest day before the compeition starts. The weather is sunny 28 degrees and the whole set-up is really good. |
