Today is Richard's Birthday.  Due to the change in the programme we were able to spend the whole day with the parents in the nearby ancient town.  This is the real China with a great market where you can see the craftspeople at work and where you can buy individually made gifts.
 
However, to start the day, and escape from the Chinese diet we have been on for the past two weeks, we all had lunch at KFC.   This was appreciated by all the athletes.
 
After this we went off to the market and spent several hours looking at all the stalls and haggling for the best bargains.  Many presents were purchased here and most people had a collection of carrier bags by the time we were finished.   We did have some rain showers whilst we were out but nothing really serious. 
 
We had arrived at the town by minibus, however, because this area is a real maze of small waterways it was quicker, and more fun, to return to the hotel by boat.
 
When we got back to the hotel we went into dinner.  We were able to sit around one large table where the hotel staff brought Richard a huge bunch of flowers and an enormous cake.   Needless to say this was quickly demolished.   In the evening everyone is going to the disco to complete the day.
 
As I write this I can hear the rain lashing the hotel windows so I guess the typhoon is now on its way.
